Short Description/ Purpose of Job
The Community Liaison Officer is key to building good working relationships with our operations’ surrounding communities. The CLO position is key for the company, working across various departments such as CPF management, SHE, HR projects, Drilling, Seismic, etc. The position of the CLO will be the eyes and ears of Sasol in the community, keeping communication between him and community leaders, influencers and opinion makers flowing at all times so that the company is well aware of the current pressing issues and concerns of the communities.
Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities
The job responsibilities of the Community Liaison Officer will be the following:
- Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all communities and Local Government (Locality, Administrative Post and District Administration leadership).
- Keep the communities/leadership informed on the progress of Sasol Projects/operations and developments.
- Always keep the company aware of the community priorities, concerns and pressing issues.
- Manage the complaint mechanism established by the company and make sure that all boxes are monitored every month, keep the complaint database always updated, by making sure that communities receive feedback on time on any concerns raised.
- Support the implementation of the LDAs by interacting with community leaders and getting their feedback on community satisfaction.
- Gets to know the communities well, keeping basic statistics such as number of existing schools, health centres, # of students, etc.
- Conduct routine visits to the communities and meet leadership to maintain regular presence and communication.
- Supports company events preparation and make sure communities are well engaged and prepared for meaningful participation.
- Maintain good communication and collaboration with other Corporate Affairs sections to ensure alignment and mutual support.
- Support the Specialist Communication and Community Relations Specialist and other colleagues in the delivery of their work to the communities.
Formal Education
Bachelor’s degree in business management, Community Development, Economics, Sociology or related discipline or High School Diploma/Certifcate with 11 years experience in a similar role.
Min Experience
- Minimum 3 to 5 years relevant experience in social development and sustainability, with strong skills in community engagement practice.
- Strong community engagement and development
- Strong operational / field work experience
- Good project and time management Experience with extractive industry or developmental sector (NGOs) and donor agencies;
- Fluent in Portuguese, knowledge of English and Xitswa an advantage.
