Job Title: Snr Well Operator Process Artisan

Short Description/ Purpose of Job
A Well Operations Artisan operates Wells equipment, process equipment, systems, and processes for a specific plant/unit/Well-site within the Sasol environment to achieve production requirements in a safe manner
Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities
- Draw an overview of the site and identify the different operating facilities, workshops, laboratories and service buildings
- Identify and interpret key information presented on P&ID’s and Drawings
- Comply with Safety policies and procedures"
- Plant and Wells Process
- Understand plant operating philosophy and strategy
- Understand Wells completion and architecture
- Comply with plant process operating practices and procedures
- Understand and comply with Wells operations philosophy
- Comply with isolation instructions and procedures
- Conduct preparation for Start-up and Shut-down
- Conduct valve line-up
- Conduct routine duties
- Recognize and act on abnormal conditions
- Participate in Start-up and Shut-down activities
- Plant Hazardous Materials
- Describe the consequences of cross contamination
- Explain how to prevent cross contamination
- Prevent loss of containment
- Respond to a loss of containment
- Respond when someone has contact with a hazardous material"
- Plant Handover
- Compile a shift log of information and data
- Participate in shift handovers
- Present all relevant handover information to the incoming operator
- Check and confirm that the information contained in the handover situation is correct
- Explain why it is important to complete all documentation clearly and accurately
- Identify the consequences of not checking and confirming handover information"
- Quality
- Identify the importance of product quality
- Radio Communications
- Communicate, seek clarification, and command situations on the radio system Ensure compliance with the company radio policy"
- Interface with Maintenance
- Communicate and follow up with maintenance on equipment availability and planned maintenance activities
- Inspection
- Perform inspections on Wells equipment and correct or report deviations
- Plant Alarm settings
- Perform corrective action on receiving a high priority alarm
- Communicate actions taken to rectify the alarm
- Return process to normal operating parameters
- Plant Trip settings
- Understand protection devices in place in the event of the failure of a trip device
- Explain the permission restrictions to prevent inadvertent bypassing of trip devices
- Bypass and re-instate trip settings and explain the allowable circumstances for maintenance or procedural activity
- Log and communicate accordingly the reasons for bypassing the device
- Plant Distributed Control System (DCS) Functions
- Explain the key components, roles and purpose of a DCS
- Navigate the DCS
- Apply DCS permissive systems (start-up interlocks)
- Describe DCS permissive systems (start-up interlocks)
- Analyze trends and interpret trends
- Interrogate event history
- Plant Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Controls
- Understand Wells ESD function
- Perform ESD actions
- Demonstrate cause and effect knowledge in ESD application"
Formal Education & Min Experience
NQF Level 4 Occupational/NQF Level 4 Vocational
Technical Mechanical Certificate or equivalent
Relevant Well control or well integrity management certification
Minimum experience
Over 5 years of relevant field experience in Wells Operation and Maintenance
