Short Description/ Purpose of Job
The role manages and directs well and field activity related to subsurface reservoir management activities in Mozambique. This role will be responsible for executing the global standards and guidelines in field reservoir management practices. The role contributes to making quality business decisions by providing fit for purpose solutions to subsurface challenges in the area of petroleum and reservoir engineering including monitoring well & reservoir performance, managing well stock to deliver gas nominations, production database management, reservoir simulations, short-term production forecasting, consolidating technical documentation and leading well intervention/surveillance activities and recommendations, mentoring and developing engineers-in-training and/or petroleum / reservoir engineers. This managerial position will manage a subsurface team of petroleum/reservoir engineers and geoscientists. The role requires the interaction with several departments including production, maintenance, well delivery, well services, well testing and external stakeholders and is not limited to a single Asset.
The role has a leadership component in working with all Assets and subsurface specialists including other team members to ensure that appropriate data is gathered and processed, suitable models are built and calibrated, potential solutions evaluated and recommendations made. Long term strategic but mainly short-term tactical (operational and budgetary) focus is required.
Recruitment Description/ Key Accountabilities
Functional Competencies: Log Analysis - Operations, SCAL, well planning, PLTs, fluid effects on logs / rocks, uncertainty, field study characterization, evaluation for unitization, poro/perm analysis, use of interpretation models in different scenarios.
Engineering - reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, simulation, development planning, work-overs, surveillance, reservoir management, IPM, MBAL, Prosper Gap, reserves / resource maturation, well bore performance, single well bore modelling, FDP, SHE issues, EIA issues, Completion / testing techniques, artificial lift, secondary recovery, heavy oil, secondary recovery, development of unconventional reservoirs, fracturing.
Manage and organise the following
- Accountable to provide reservoir and petroleum engineering expertise. To actively review such engineering data, interpret data and generate actionable plans to remedy or improve well and field performance.
- Accountable for the generation of well intervention proposals and manage well testing and evaluation programs from a reservoir/petroleum engineering perspective.
- Accountable for the estimation of intervention and evaluation costs for input into AFEs and program estimates.
- Accountable for the departmental Opex budget
- Accountable for the compilation of time-lapse data for multi-survey campaigns.
- Accountable for ensuring systems in-place for acquisition and reporting of all field data from the well site and plant to Sasol and external stakeholder through the Senior Manager.
- Accountable for internal distribution of all production data from the wells, including storage and compilation.
- Manages real-time data links between well site(s) and office.
- Accountable for supervision of work and survey compliance by slickline sub-contractors.
- Directs the compilation of campaign reports.
- Accountable for Data Management.
- Organising post activity reviews and write-ups and use of the learning in follow on activities.
Formal Education
- Bachelor degree Geology, Earth Science, Petroleum Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other Science with a strong numerical component
- Preferred: MSc
- Preferred: Petroleum / Reservoir Engineering.
Min Experience
- 10-15 years relevant Upstream experience
- 10-15 years' experience in subsurface related activities, engineering and operations
- Experience in reservoir and field management activities. Including data acquisition campaigns.
- Perform Specialist activities using documented processes, workflows, and best practices for exploration, development, and production activities to deliver consistent, high-quality analysis to support Sasol decision making.
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in English; and Portuguese (advantageous)
