Job Summary

  • Leading the Wholesale Credit function and actively participates in defining strategic objectives to support the business; business planning and setting the direction of the business in line with Group strategy.
  • Working to ensure the country strategic objectives for Wholesale Credit are delivered within the risk appetite defined by the Bank.
  • Support the embedment of significant change initiatives within the bank and within the Risk space, in particular, ensuring effective communication and management of key stakeholders.
  • Accountable for ensuring the right target operating model, people, processes, policies and systems are in place to achieve cost effectiveness and efficiency in credit management process.
  • Leading and driving the performance of direct reports and create an environment when all individuals are developed to the best of their ability ensuring talent and underperformance are proactively managed.
  • Responsible for the Credit sanctioning, credit administration and portfolio management processes of the Wholesale Credit risk.
  • Support the management of the distressed and debt workout for wholesale credit portfolio as guided by the Distressed Asset Policy
  • Support the strategy for the recovery and collections of delinquent loans under the wholesale credit portfolio.
  • Own the responsibility for the reconciliation and accuracy of the impairment numbers for the Wholesale Credit portfolio.
  • Ensuring the Control Environment and regulatory expectations are proactively managed.

Job Description

Business Credit Partnership

  • Drive communication and formal feedback process between Credit and the Business to build trust, partnership, and appreciation of credit function amongst the business partners;
  • Support coverage (CIB, BB and Treasury) during customer engagement process to provide deal structure;
  • Responsible for delivering consistent and timely credit risk decisions;

Credit Risk E2E Sanctioning Service

  • As Credit sanctioned, key risk owner of wholesale credit risk and responsible for the Country Credit Committee agenda, make lending decisions for Wholesale Credit transactions exercising personal judgment in the evaluation and approval/ decline accountability.
  • Ensure that credit risk taken from each credit application approved is in accordance with credit appetite and lending framework.
  • Effective post-sanction fulfilment process in place to facilitate a swift disbursement process;

Credit Risk Management

  • Oversight responsibility for personal & team adherence to governance, compliance and lending portfolio controls ensuring conformance to policy and procedures.
  • Responsible for the effective management of the Audits, ensuring the appropriate rating is delivered;
  • Conformance activity is complete and actions tracked to delivery;
  • Responsible for the data integrity of country Wholesale Credit information used to manage & monitor credit risk;
  • Accountable for ensuring effective management of Country & Sovereign risk that is responsive and adaptable to country macro-economic and political situations;
  • Ensuring the asset quality of the portfolio is maintained in line with agreed risk appetite and impairment delivered within agreed budget;
  • Drive an environment of added value where everything is done to add value to every proposition and in everything the teams do;

Team Leadership and People Development

  • Develop highly motivated teams, maintaining excellent relationships across the bank and group to ensure achievement of business goals.
  • Create a high-performance culture and environment in which all employees are engaged as measured by the employee opinion survey.
  • Influence / oversight of reward and recognition decisions;
  • Drive the Credit training plan across the function to ensure the training and development needs are actively managed.
  • Set challenging objectives and ensure effective performance development and succession planning for the team.
  • Drive the development of credit specialization to build in-house expertise;

Business and Change Management

  • Initiate and proactively embed agreed change initiatives that supports and drives process & quality improvements, cost reductions and development of credit professionals.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and driving necessary changes for greater efficiency.
  • Deliver organizational costs within the agreed budget.
  • Ensure capacity to manage volume workflow to world class standards of quality and cost.
  • Develop and maintain strong network of internal / group contacts at a senior level;

Risk, Governance and Regulatory

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Risk Management Framework and internal Absa Policies and Standards;
  • Understand and manage risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role;

Education

Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required), Diploma
